Pope Francis, Christ's New Channel of Peace

I got up this morning and read the message on my celfone from my Irish friend in the Netherlands saying that we have a new pope, Francis from Argentina and that he hopes that he is a reformer. At that hour, I have very little information about the former Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio but I told my friend that he will be good for the church and he replied I think so...

Well, I know so! Christ is the head of our church and it is not just the college of cardinals choice but His choice.

 

I have read that Pope Francis is a No frills Pope and that is good for our church. We have been praying for our own Cardinal Tagle to become the new Pope, not just because he is a Filipino but because he was a simple man who mingled with the poor. Our new Pope also mingled with the poor and have worked with the poor and the oppressed. I am sure that he will easily carry out the church's thrust of new evangelization which is captured in his speech to the Argentinian priests last year...

"Jesus teaches us another way: Go out. Go out and share your testimony. Go out and interact with your brothers. Go out and share. Go out and ask. Become the Word in body as well as spirit.'' 

My Irish friend was a Catholic who has lost faith in the church. Maybe in time, he'll go back to the fold. As I pray that others who like him, have lost faith in the Catholic Church comes back. That Pope Francis will be an instrument of peace and healing for the Catholic church and that through his living testimony and those of the faithful, Christ Church will grow.
